Ancestors of Lou and Jim served in the Confederate Army in Kentucky and Tennessee units.

Kentucky flag Kentucky

SWANN, Manoah T: A captain, Company C, 1st Regiment Kentucky Cavalry, CSA (Confederate States Army), he was killed in action 10 Aug 1862 at the Battle of Perryville, Kentucky, and was buried on the battlefield in a horse lot. A coffin lid was later buried in his memory at the South Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Calloway County, Kentucky. .

Tennessee flag Tennessee

HUDSON, Robert A: He served in the 59th Tennessee Infantry Regiment, CSA, in Longstreet's command. Fought at Chickamauga and Missionary Ridge, where he was captured. Was a prisoner of war at the Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois, for a year and a half. At the end of the war he signed the required pledge and went back to Dickson County. He died in 1901.

JAMES, James: He served as a sergeant in Company D, 49th Tennessee Infantry Regiment, CSA. He enlisted at Fort Donelson, was surrendered with the fort, was sent to Camp Douglas, Illinois, then paroled at Vicksburg, Mississippi. He then rejoined the regiment at Port Hudson, Louisiana, where he died 14 February 1863. The records of the Port Hudson State Commemorative Area indicate that he was buried on the battlefield with many other Confederate dead, and the location of his grave is not known.
